"The New Chevrolet. Its beauty is in the eyes, the legs, the hands, and the heart of the beholder." This is how the GM brand advertised the 1977 lineup, which received a massive overhaul whose main purpose was downsizing.
However, the company pushed this concept to a new level, eliminating the weight that its full-size cars became famous for but adding upgrades that customers eventually enjoyed, such as better interiors with more space overall.

With the Bel Air no longer around, the Impala and the Caprice were now in charge of spearheading sales in the full-size strategy. The Caprice was now as critical to Chevrolet as the Impala, despite the latter giving birth to the other the previous decade – the Caprice debuted in 1965 as an Impala version before graduating to a separate series a year later.

1977 also witnessed the debut of a new model in the Impala and Caprice lineup: the Landau Coupe. This model followed in the footsteps of the Chevrolet Coupe—which debuted the previous September—and was intended to provide customers with a sportier alternative.

"Now that's more like it," GM said in its marketing materials.

The Chevrolet Landau Coupe came with a vinyl Landau top, four wire wheel covers, sports mirrors, accent stripping, and Landau nameplates.

Finding a Landau coupe is much harder than you'd think. Chevrolet produced only 9,607 examples in 1977 – the production increased significantly the next year when 22,771 units rolled off the assembly lines – and over 62,000 Caprice coupes (without the Landau goodies). The numbers make sense. The Landau coupe was new for the model year 1977 and debuted midway through the model year, so buyers didn't have enough time to discover the car, despite Chevrolet encouraging everyone to visit a nearby dealership.

They eventually did it a year later, so the Caprice Landau coupe benefitted from more exposure in 1978. The Impala wasn't this lucky, as its production numbers remained low. The Impala Landau coupe was significantly less popular than its Caprice sibling, with only 2,749 units produced in the first year on the market. The output increased to 4,652 units a year later.

A gorgeous 1977 Chevrolet Caprice Landau coupe landed on eBay not long ago, looking for a new home. The car comes in incredible shape for a car this old, and seller bay4tay explains that the only missing part is the rear center bumper filler, albeit they'll include an unpainted replacement in the sale.

Otherwise, this Caprice Landau is as good as a new car without taking into account the scars that approximately five decades typically leave on the body and the cabin.

I won't comment much on its condition because everybody can admire this Landau coupe in the excellent photos and the walkaround video shared by the owner.

However, you must know that the entire Landau package is still available, starting with the vinyl top and ending with the wire wheels. The car comes with the original radio and 8-track player, and as a bonus, you also get two cassettes in the glovebox.

The car sports a new carpet and new weather stripping, but the biggest question hides beneath the numbers on the odometer. The Caprice has only 13,700 miles on the clock, and nobody knows if this is the original mileage. The seller says there's a chance the odometer has rolled over, but they're not certain because they didn't get such information when receiving the car.

Otherwise, this Caprice Landau is a little piece of automotive history. It runs and drives thanks to a properly cared-for 350ci V8 engine paired with an automatic transmission.

The standard engine on the Caprice in 1977 was the 250 six-cylinder unit rated at 110 horsepower, but buyers could also opt for more powerful units, including a 305 two-barrel unit with 145 horsepower. The 350 available in this example was the top choice, producing 170 horsepower thanks to a four-barrel carburetor.

The car was born and raised in Washington "near the Chevrolet dealership in Marysville," and the seller reveals that this is where it was purchased. It was found in the same place and transferred to California. It sells with two original build sheets, and one is "still stuck to the back seat."

You might expect a car this old and special to sell for big bucks, but this isn't the case with this Chevrolet Caprice Landau. The owner believes $20,000 is a fair price – and it is, despite finding a Landau is an impossible mission today – and they also enabled the Make Offer button for people who want the vehicle but have another deal in mind. eBay's statistics indicate that 23 people currently monitor the listing.

Meanwhile, the car is parked in Berkeley, California, and considering the listing will expire in 26 days, you have enough time to contact the owner and discuss all the details before making plans for an in-person inspection.
