Subtlety. This is a notion the Hellcat, be it a Charger or a Challenger, doesn't include in its vocabulary. So when one of these factory-blown SRT machines goes for a dyno world record attempt, the pleasure-inducing chaos is on the house.
This is exactly what happened last week, when a White Dodge Challenger attempted to set a new record in the field mentioned above. The adventure was part of the 2016 Hot Rod Power Tour and you can see the muscle beast screaming on the dyno in the clip at the bottom of the page.
We're dealing with bolt-ons here, which means the blown 6.2-liter V8 under that long hood has been gifted with a pulley upgrade, a custom exhaust, as well as an ECU remap.
While this Hellcat managed to deliver 1,015 at the rear wheels inside the shop, exposing it to the Louisiana heat, where this part of the Power Tour took place, will obviously lower that number.
While we won't ruin the fun of the clip by mentioning any more numbers, we have to remind you one thing: those of you curious about the crank hp rating automakers use have to follow the good old 15 percent drivetrain loss, which obviously isn't all that accurate.
Speaking of the world's most muscular new-age Challenger, that title probably goes to the Hellhound we introduced to you back in May. Instead of using the Hellcat setup, this is an SRT 392 Challenger with a custom supercharger and a generous shot of nitrous. Given the mods, the HEMI can now deliver up to 1,310 hp and 1,216 lb-ft. And yes, those are the values at the rear wheels.
Interestingly, that Mopar machine comes with a stick shift and, on an even more impressive not, we'll mention its owner claims he uses the beast as a daily driver.
