In recent Cadillac news, the luxury division of GM announced the upcoming flagship sedan dubbed CT6 will be built in Detroit late next year and will use Super Cruise automated driving technology.
Moreover, the entire Cadillac lineup will be soon renamed to CT something (sedans and coupes) and XT something (for crossovers and SUVs). But the highly anticipated Cadillac CT6 flagship hides some neat tricks up its sleeves. In an interview with The Detroit News, General Motors' executive VP of global product development Mark Reuss declared that the CT6 will get a plug-in hybrid variant with "industry-leading fuel economy upwards of 70 mpg equivalent."
Furthermore, top-drawer materials such as aluminum alloys, high-strength steel and such will go into the mixed material body structure, making the Cadillac CT6 flagship sedan weigh 53 pounds (24 kg) less than the outgoing CTS, despite it being 8 inches (20 centimeters) longer than the mid-size Caddy CTS.
Even more impressive is that the traditional rearview mirror design has been ditched for a thru-view design. The GM official declared: “We’ve taken that rear backup camera and steamed it into the front mirror.” But all these pale in comparison to what Cadillac has in store in terms of powertrain tech.
Mark Reuss told the aforementioned publication that the range-topping Cadillac CT6 will employ a 3-liter twin-turbo powerhouse, coupled to an eight-speed transmission. That transmission may come in the form of the 8L90 that equips the blistering fast 2015 Corvette Z06. As for the motor, Reuss was coy on fruity specifics, but he told that it'll be the most "powerful six-cylinder gas engine in the segment."
