It’s been less than a month since the 2015 Mustang was unwrapped, and car enthusiasts are still dissecting its brand new design, which, as you may have already noticed, takes the pony into “love it or hate it” territory.
Ford released a video explaining the vehicle’s new design earlier this month, saying that the musclecar sports a “’64-’65 look”. Now, the official design sketches have been released, showing that the 2015 Mustang is indeed inspired by the first-generation model, with a 1968-inspired front fascia, forward-leaning “shark-bite” nose and dual roof bubbles.
The new pony retains the Coke bottle overall shape and the fastback roof, which were also part of the first-gen Mustang’s design, but also features a “racing-inspired diffuser”, a first for the Detroit-built coupe. There also a sketch for the cabin, which has been fitted with a so-called “aeronautical style” center stack and details borrowed from the 1967 Mustang, the 1964 1/2 pony and the Ford GT.
