We're starring at our test car and are bewildered by how good the Gallardo looks after all these years. We want to be just like this Lambo when we grow old.
When Lamborghini launched the Gallardo LP570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale, the company explained that this was its most extreme Gallardo to date. It's hard to argue with that, especially when seeing that oversized blade at the back, which is taken straight from the Super Trofeo race car. The carbon fiber composite
rear wing is so large that, in the absence of a parachute, it must be the next best thing to have with you when flying. Seriously, it triples the downforce offered in the standard Gallardo.
The spoiler is part of a full-body carbon fiber composite suit that Lamborghini uses to differentiate the car from the LP 570-4 Superleggera, the street model which the Super Trofeo Stradale is the closest to.
The
quick-release engine cover is also borrowed from the track-confined Gallardo. The rest of the carbon-flavored kit includes the rocker panel covers, rear diffuser, as well as the
side mirror housings.
Lamborghini is stepping on Ferrari's toes with the hue of the Gallardo Super Trofeo Stradale. The standard finish for the car is called Rosso Mars and Lambo tells us that it was chosen because "it symbolizes Italy's traditional racing red, as established at the beginning of last century in motor racing". Bold, we like that.
It would be mildly amusing to see a customer who comes to buy one of these and says "No, I want to be discrete". However, Lamborghini is prepared for such a request and can also deliver the car in either Grigio Telesto (Unimportant Gray) or Bianco Monocerus (Don't Care White).
And while the Makrolon polycarbonate windows didn't make it to the street, the Super Trofeo Stradale comes with ultra-light
19-inch forged wheels. The rims make the rollers on the standard Gallardo seem like bricks, as they save 29 lbs (13 kg). In fact, the entire area around them is special: the wheel bearings and bolts are made from titanium, while the rubber is a set of Pirelli P Zero Corsas.
Not surprisingly, the Gallardo Super Trofeo Stradale tips the scales at about the same value with the LP 570-4 Superleggera. The car has a dry weight of 2,954 lbs (1,340 kg), being 154 lbs (70 kg) lighter than the normal
Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4.
