The Dodge Challenger Demon 170 is going down in history as one of the most brutal cars that have ever rolled off the production line. Banned from drag racing, fast enough to beat the Tesla Model S Plaid in a straight line, and mean-looking enough to scare whoever sees it in the rearview mirror, the Demon 170 has never been tagged as affordable.
"Affordable" has never been a word that you would normally use in the same sentence with the 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170. A ferocious car from bumper to bumper, the model has always had a price tag that doubled the starting price of the entry-level Challenger. And nobody has ever complained.

But now, things seem to be getting out of control. The carbon fiber wheels, which were originally offered as an option on the Challenger Demon 170 for $11,495, can now be purchased for nearly $14,000 from Dodge and Mopar dealers. $13,920, to be precise.

The owners of the cars equipped with the carbon fiber wheels from the factory must be feeling like they hit the jackpot and it probably won't take long until such wheels become some of the most popular items on the used car parts market.

That is not even the price for the entire set but for a single wheel. Simple mathematics shows that customers would pay as much as $56,000. Or $55,680, if we're still going for the precision. Not that it matters much for those willing to pay that amount of money for a set of wheels. And the price does not include taxes and shipping. Not even wheel caps are included, so customers will have to pay extra for those.

Considering that the Ford Mustang starts at $30,920, you could almost buy two Mustangs for the price of a set of carbon fiber wheels for the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170.

The nearly $56,000 price tag is higher than what Koenigsegg offered for its cars back in 2013. The Swedish hypercar manufacturer rolled out one-piece carbon-fiber wheels for $40,000. But they were for cars that started at around $12 million.

Surprisingly, the wheels designed by Lacks Enterprises cost more than half of the price of the whole car. The Dodge Challenger Demon 170 starts at $96,666 before options.

The advantages of carbon fiber wheels are obvious. They keep the weight down, saving a total of 30 pounds or 13.6 kilograms for the performance-focused Challenger, which is really not that much.

They offer better handling, upgrade braking and acceleration performance, and look good. But aren't there any options that would not make a hole in your pocket the size of the Grand Canyon?

Desperate to get their hands on the ultra-special wheels, which are parts number 68651698AB for the front axle and 6861697AA for the rear, Challenger 170 Demon owners show disappointment on forums, as indicated by Carbuzz. They can't understand why they cost so much.

The wheels are not entirely carbon fiber as they also integrate a forged aluminum center and titanium alloy hardware. These are the wheels on which the Demon 170 covered the 0 to 60 mph (0 to 97 kph) run in just 1.66 seconds and did the quarter mile in 8.91.

The latter is the figure that made the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) issue a violation letter, banning the car from drag racing unless it is equipped with a roll cage and a parachute. In other words, that means it is too fast for its own sake.

Blame it on the supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V8 and the 1,025 horsepower it pumps out!
