Ferdinand Porsche founded his legendary company in 1931 with its main offices in Stuttgart. They did not make cars under their own name initially and only offered engineering and consulting services.
One of their first assignment was the Beetle, which later became a military vehicle called the Kubelwagen during World War II. Porsche also produced several prototypes for a heavy tank that would become known as the Porsche Tiger. He lost the contract to anther Germany company and converted the chassis he had built into tank destroyers with longer barreled guns. Yes, Porsche tanks did see action during the later part of WWII, though there were only a few of them.
Due to Adolf Hitler’s crazy ideas for a war winning weapon to end all weapons, Porsche also developed the Maus, which weighed 188 tons.
Why did we give you such a long history lesson? Because we felt like it after seeing this particular Porsche 911, which has been wrapped in military camo, though the pattern is more US Army than German Wehrmacht.
It’s a 911 Carrera 4S, the outgoing 997, not the current 991. But the stylish coupe still has crowd pulling power, and we love its blacked out wheel and its optional sports exhaust system.
