Yamaha R1 and R6 Special Versions Tweaked by Ohlins

The result of a collaboration between Japanese brand Yamaha and suspension specialist Ohlins, Project 13S and Project 14B have been unveiled at the Carole Nash Motorcycle Live show in Birmingham these days. The special edition bikes are based on the YZF-R6 and YZF-R1 respectively.

The special R1 version (Project 14B) has received an Ohlins TTX 336 rear shock costing £969 ($1,505), a £2,012 ($3,127) pair of Ohlins Road and Track forks, Galfer Wavy brake discs, two-finger ASV levers, Gilles rear sets, a £1,033 ($1,605) pair of Akrapovic Carbon slip-on exhausts and cosmetic tweaks including a new paint scheme.

On the other hand, the R6, dubbed Project 13S, features similar modifications but with an £832 ($1,293) Ohlins NIX 30mm cartridge fitted to enhance the original forks. This is based on the same model that Britain’s Cal
Crutchlow took the 2009 World Supersport title on before moving up to ride the YZF-R1 in WSB and now the M1 MotoGP bike.

“Ohlins and Yamaha have a history of working together and what better way to showcase the potential of our leading sportsbikes than equipping them with Ohlins suspension,” stated Karl Radley, Marketing Co-ordinator Powersports, Parts & Accessories, Yamaha UK.

“It is great to continue the close working relationship between Yamaha and Ohlins. Ohlins is proud to have relationships with all the major motorcycle manufacturers when it comes to WSB and MotoGP, where there has been a strong synergy between Yamaha and Ohlins that we are pleased to replicate in these Special Edition bikes. Any rider looking at increasing the already fabulous sporting potential of their Yamaha bike should be inspired by these Special Editions, they are a true showcase of the best modifications on the market,”
added Chris Witter, Business Development Manager, Ohlins Racing UK.
