More often than not, when a car drives off with the fuel pump nozzle still in, there’s a woman behind the wheel. Nevertheless, the battle of the lousy sexes is not that categorically won by females. Men forget about the nozzle too and we’re here to show you the latest example of this.
The clip below, which comes from Russia, shows a Mercedes driver getting out of a gas station while his car is still... plugged. Since we’re talking about Russia, the footage doesn’t come from the station’s CCTV, but from the all-too-famous dash cams, namely the camera mounted on the car behind the Merc.

The man steps outside his car, an E-Class 200 automatic (the present model) and into the station to pay, while he lets an employee take care of the feeding process. The gas station attendant leaves the nozzle in, while going to assist another driver. Before he has the chance to return, the first driver gets back into his E-Class and drives away. The guy takes off as if he was in a really big hurry and once the hose is fully stretched, the thing snaps, causing a bit of a splash.

What happens when you drive off with the nozzle still in the car

The hose linking the pump to the nozzle has a break-away point, which you can spot by looking for a metallic coupling. This is design to separate into two pieces once a certain force is applied, so you won’t be ruining the entire pump.

As for who will cover the costs, well, this depends from one station to another. In the case of our Russian driver here, it looks like the station covered the damage, as the man drove away soon after the unfortunate incident.
