House prices keep rising and breaking records in Australia, but people's income levels are not keeping up with the price growth, so many are planning to scale down on square footage in order to fulfill their dreams of homeownership. As a result, the tiny house movement continues to expand and innovate in this part of the world.
The high demand for inexpensive housing means tiny home manufacturers are hard at work coming up with creative designs that prove compact living spaces can still be welcoming and comfortable while also being friendly to the environment. Made by Bare is one of the manufacturers that focus on creating tiny homes that can truly enable dwellers to adopt eco-conscious and sustainable living.

The New South Wales-based company wants to drive change in the building industry by crafting off-grid, circular-designed tiny homes constructed using only locally sourced, eco-friendly materials and renewable energy sources. The team's approach to sustainability entails a combination of advanced manufacturing techniques and circular economy principles that help minimize the use of materials and ultimately allow owners to reduce their carbon footprint and reach self-sufficiency.

However, the builder believes that a dwelling with a small footprint can still offer a highly functional living space and lead to a fulfilled life. With this in mind, all their designs are surprisingly commodious, integrate perfectly with their natural surroundings, and are brimming with unique features for high-quality living.

Their latest Wollemi model is no exception. This two-bedroom tiny home is 29 feet (8.8m) long, 8 feet (2.4m) wide, and 14 feet (4.2m) high and can accommodate four people in a stunning living space that fosters connection and comfortability. It is a larger version of the builder's Ningaloo design, with some extra space that allows for a bigger kitchen, more storage space, room for a breakfast bar or desk, and a second loft bedroom.

Besides the spacious interior, the Wollemi also stands out with a gamut of windows throughout that invite the outdoors in and flood every functional area inside this home with natural light. As in most Australian designs, the glass front doors are notably larger than in European or American models, and Wollemi also boasts a huge corner window in the living room, both of which do a wonderful job at blurring the lines between indoors and outdoors.

Moreover, the high ceilings, combined with the open-plan layout and the extensive use of glazing, have an almost magnifying effect, making the interior seem more spacious than it actually is.

But the true highlight of this home is the comfortable sunken lounge, a signature feature of all Made by Bare designs. Described by the builder as "a hat tip to the old-school conversation pit," the sunken lounge is a great way to create a separate, more intimate area for relaxed chats with friends or family gatherings without obstructing the views or the natural flow between the areas of this home. Moreover, this clever design choice allows for the loft bedroom above to offer full standing height on one side of the bed. As for furnishings, this peculiar living room is fitted with a large L-shaped sofa with integrated storage and a center table.

The stylish full kitchen has base and overhead cabinets made of Paperock, a strong composite building material made from paper layers from renewable sources bonded with phenolic resin. There is plenty of storage space for all your cooking essentials, but the builder only includes the sink and a two-burner gas cooktop in the base model. This means that future dwellers can equip the kitchen with their choice of appliances or add from the builder's offering, which includes a dishwasher, oven, rangehood, and fridge for an additional cost.

Across from the kitchen, there is space for an under-window breakfast bar for those who want to dine with a view or a small desk for those working from home.

As mentioned, Wollemi can comfortably accommodate four adults, as it comes with not one but two queen loft bedrooms, one at either end of the house. They are both accessible via wooden ladders and have plenty of windows for beautiful views from a high vantage point. The builder offers some optional extras for the sleeping space, including a bedside storage cupboard with drawers and shirt hanger.

The bathroom inside this tiny home surprises with its spaciousness and modern design. It hides behind a pocket door and has polished concrete floors and birch ply walls and ceilings. A glass-enclosed shower cabin, a beautiful hardwood floating vanity with a cast concrete sink, and exposed copper and brass fittings make it look stylish and sophisticated.

In terms of construction, Wollemi sits on a heavy-duty, galvanized steel trailer chassis with 12-inch electric drum brakes and a breakaway system. It is built with a light gauge steel frame and boasts Earthwool insulation for year-round living. The exterior can be finished in Colorbond steel, hardwood, or recycled timber siding, while the soothing interior boasts birch plywood cladding all around. Lightweight, versatile, and affordable, plywood is a material that brings warmth and personality to this house without breaking the budget.

Built with functionality, comfort, and sustainability in mind, the Wollemi tiny house is a dreamy living space that would perfectly integrate into any natural landscape. In terms of pricing, the turn key model will set you back AUD $177,450 (roughly US$117,700), and the builder also offers an optional off-grid package with solar panels, a Victron electrical system, and a lithium-ion phosphate battery, which will raise the price to AUD$191,550 (US$127,500).
