What’s Your Favorite BMW Concept of 2013?

2013 was a big year for BMW, there’s no doubt about it. The company released more than a few new cars on the market in its attempt to ‘infiltrate’ all the possible segments, classes and niches. However, more new models are expected in the near future, models that were introduced in the shape of concepts over the year that is rapidly approaching its end.
So, here I am, asking you what’s your favorite BMW concept launched this year. To make things easier for you, I’ll even introduce all of them and say a few words about each one. In a completely random order (or is it?) I’ll begin with the Active Tourer Outdoor Concept.

This car is meant to represent the evil to the true BMW aficionado. It will be the first ever FWD production model ever to be spawned by the Bavarian company, a true deviance from what the DNA of this company represents. It will have 1.5-liter 3-cylinder engines and probably a hybrid version too and it will look like this, when it enters production under the 2 Series GT name. I’m going to guess this one won’t win too many votes.

Up next is the M4 Coupe Concept that became the M4 Coupe just a few months after its unveiling. The best thing about the new model that will replace the M3 Coupe is probably the fact that it looks exactly as the concept. It has plenty of power and it’s lightweight, meaning that it will probably be the redemption of the M division that was widely criticized for its cars lately. We’ll see.

Next we have two BMW X5 based concepts. The first one is the eDrive Concept, a hybrid SUV using the technology developed for  the i sub-brand that is meant to bring eco-friendly mobility and the luxury of the X5 together in a playful harmony. It will be using a 2-liter turbo engine and the electric motor from the i3.

The second one is the BMW X5 Security Plus Concept, one aiming at a completely different segment. This version is the only one in its class that respects the VR6 level of protection (it’s good!). Basically, this baby will take everything some throws at it and then keep going, even in the harshest environments.

Last but not least, there’s the BMW X4 Concept launched in Shanghai. The seconds Sports Activity Coupe from BMW will be the X4 and it will step behind its bigger brother the X6. It will have the same sloping roofline towards the back but we hope none of the headaches of the current SAC in the line-up (owners and backseat passengers know what I mean). It looks mean and it will definitely pack a heavy punch once on the road.

So, these are the Concepts BMW revealed this year. Oh, there’s one more but that one was drawn only for the Gran Turismo 6 PS3 driving simulator and it won’t become reality any time soon, so we didn’t include it. Have your pick and let us know which is your favorite in the comments section below!
