Nowadays, tire explosions are truly rare occurrences and yet we’ve come across one of these unfortunate events that takes the cake when it comes to being extreme. We’re talking about a Nissan GT-R that blows a tire while it is doing over 200 mph.
Godzilla was actually doing 203 mph (that’s 327 km/h for all you metric fans) when the left front tire decides it is time to give up. The supercar was on a multi-lane highway when the blowout took place, but managed to bring the Nissan safely onto the shoulder.
Of course, the GT-R’s all-wheel drive system had a major contribution here. As you notice in the footage below, which allows us to get a dual view of the car, the GT-R doesn’t become unstable once the exact moment of the blast passes.
In case you were wondering, the tires used here were Dunlop Sport Maxx GT600 units.
For the record, this Nissan GT-R was not in stock condition, as the car punished all four wheels with 800 horses. Among other mods, the twin-turbo V6 engine was stroked from 3.8 to 4.3 liter, while the boost pressure was increased. In fact, we didn’t even need to tell you that - you can figure out this is a pumped-up GT-R just by the manner in which the speedometer rushes upwards.
