Volkswagen Training Academy Opened in India

The second El Dorado of the automotive world these past few years, India, is attracting more and more investments from the carmakers who sell vehicles there. The latest such investment has been made by German manufacturer Volkswagen, who announced in the beginning of the week the opening of a new training academy in Pune.

The facility will be in charge with training apprentices, employees and dealers in all aspects related to the business. The center will also be the headquarters of Volkswagen's local vocational training.

"The Volkswagen Group is seeking to become a top employer at all of its sites worldwide,” said Martin Winterkorn, Volkswagen chairman of the board.

“We do not make a distinction between established home markets and emerging growth regions because the same applies everywhere: Top products can only be manufactured by a top team. That strengthens the company, the employees and the region."

The new academy is located at the carmaker's Pune plant (the same which in the beginning of the year celebrated the production of the 11,111,111th Polo model produced worldwide), opened last year. It covers 1,500 square meters and includes seminar rooms and practical training facilities. Volkswagen is among the first carmakers to open such a facility in India.

"Volkswagen is creating a livelihood for many Indian families and is not only investing in production halls and machinery, but – more importantly – also in people,” said David McAllister, the president of one of the German manufacturer's shareholders, the state of Lower Saxony, who was present at the opening ceremony.
