The announcement of an all-new Volkswagen Golf R is a big deal for performance car enthusiasts, who don`t really like the fact that the GTI is front-wheel drive (and not all that powerful). The R version of the Mk. VI Golf made around 270 hp, and sent all of its power to all four wheels.
Now, with the teased Golf R, based on the seventh generation of the car, Volkswagen is pushing things along, a bit, and the new car is expected to put out 290 hp, from a modified version of the same 2.0-liter turbocharged engine. With 20 hp than its predecessor, 100 km/h or 62 mph should come up in under 5.5 seconds, and the car could theoretically exceed 250 km/h, if geared properly.

Volkswagen has now released a teaser image for the new Golf R, yet it does not really reveal anything, aside from the fact that the car is blue, looks like a Golf and has bumper-mounted LED daytime running lights. It is expected to cost from around €38,000, when it goes on sale in Germany next year.
