The Volkswagen Phaeton is ex-CEO Ferdinand Piech’s lasting legacy with the company. He wanted a car which could do everything very well, in order to beat the established competition.
The car was a sales flop, and never sold in the numbers they were expecting it to, yet the experience and expertise accumulated while it was being developed and then manufactured have already been put to good use.
According to Inside Line, the development of an all-new Phaeton has been confirmed at the Paris Motor Show, by VW’s research and development chief. The new all-aluminium car has cars such as the Jaguar XJ and the rest of the luxury establishment in its sights, aiming yet again to surpass all of its competitors. It remains to be seen, we say.
Another important piece of information is the fact that VW is planning on selling it in the US, as well, where it was only sold in V8 and W12 forms. No official date for it has been confirmed, yet.
