The Volkswagen Up! is an affordable citycar currently available only in Europe. It’s got exposed metal panel inside, a basic layout and really small engines, all there in the effort to save weight, reduce consumption and lower the price. Of course, it’s made by VW, so they haven’t skimped on quality, nor on price for that matter.
However, VW wants to also introduce the Up! to other markets, such as Asia or South America. But before it can do that, it needs to be tailored to local demands.
The biggest change will be in the back of the car. A report has emerged from Brazil saying the Up! sold there will increased space in the back. In Europe, the car is sold as a four-seater, but in emerging markets, having three places on the back bench, no matter how cramped, is important.
The gas tank will have an increased capacity, while the interior will be much simpler to make it cheaper.
