Visteon Opens Plant in Russia

After last week American supplier Visteon announced it will partner with Russian electronics manufacturer Avtopribor, news of the company opening a new door panels and other interior components manufacturing facility in Kaluga, Russia emerged today.

The facility will be used to produce the aforementioned elements for the new Volkswagen Polo. Production is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2011, with the plant being created in such a way that it could accommodate other production needs in the future as well.

"The Kaluga plant demonstrates Visteon's commitment to establishing a strong presence in the growing Russian market in support of our global growth objectives," said Steve Meszaros, Visteon product group president.

"This new facility provides a platform for Visteon to expand our relationships with the increasing number of global vehicle manufacturers in the region," added Pierre Boulet, Visteon's general manager for Europe and South America.

Visteon is slowly becoming one of the biggest suppliers on the Russian market. After the signing of the partnership with Avtopribor and the creation of the Visteon Avtopribor Electronics joint venture, Visteon has become Russia's largest automotive electronics supplier.

The joint venture set up last week will manufacture components based on Visteon's global cockpit electronics technology platforms and will include audio, infotainment, driver information and controls electronics.

The parts will be manufactured by local manufacturers for AVTOVAZ, GAZ and Sollers. The foreign carmakers present in the country are also targeted by the joint venture. Visteon also supplies interior, climate, electronics and lighting components for the carmakers operating in Russia.
