Except for one shadow of a shadow of its former self, aka Mitsubishi, all other Asian carmakers did moderately to extremely well on the US automotive market during the first half of the year, including the peeps over at American Honda.
While its Acura luxury division failed to impress us after a drop of more than 13%, its negative performance represents less than 10% of the total of over 690k units they delivered during H1. The namesake Honda brand, instead, did all the heavy lifting and took home the Japanese mountain lion's share with 626,266 examples and a surge of more than 12%.
They are now beginning to ramp up the sales of their all-electric Acura ZDX and Honda Prologue, but those won't be the cash cows, of course. Instead, that would be the newly refreshed 2025 Civic series, especially the fresh 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid. Interestingly, the Japanese automaker doesn't bother itself with anything other than sedans and crossover SUVs with one major exception – it still sells the quirky $25k Civic Hatchback.
That's very important – the $45k 2024 Honda Civic Type R is based on that. However, if you want something else that's a little more practical but not a crossover SUV or truck, you're out of luck. No worries, the parallel universes of vehicular CGI always have a solution or two at hand. So, to keep the positive sales momentum going, a member of the imaginative realm of digital car content creators has envisioned a potential nameplate return.
Remember the dreadful Honda (Accord) Crosstour mid-size coupe-SUV that was produced for the 2010 to 2015 model years? Well, Dimas Ramadhan, the virtual automotive artist behind the Digimods DESIGN channel on YouTube, did and now has taken up the task of CGI-revealing a revived Honda Crosstour – albeit now fashioned as a fastback five-door sedan rather than a true crossover SUV.
Frankly, this unofficial, hypothetical idea isn't without its merits – Toyota has on sale the 2025 Crown, a high-riding fastback sedan, and Honda could attack it with this imagined Honda Crosstour revival. They wouldn't have to work hard to conceive it, either, as it would naturally use the Accord underpinnings and join the family to mirror the Civic Sedan and Hatchback situation.
For powertrains, it would obviously use the same options as the current eleventh-generation 2024 Accord – the 1.5-liter turbocharged mill for lower trims and the hybrid setup for higher grades. So, what do you think? Should Honda contemplate the idea of reviving the Crosstour as a fastback sedan/hatchback counterpart of the Accord and battle with the S235 Toyota Crown, or not? Would you prefer something like this with space for the entire family, or would you rather see Honda introduce the revived Prelude hybrid sports car to North America?
