Chevrolet just released the pricing details about the Equinox EV, which undercuts Tesla's offers. Rivian wants to make the R3 an even better proposition than even the $45k R2 mid-size SUV, and most likely next year, we'll see the second-generation Bolt EV challenge the old-school Nissan Leaf as a sub-$30k all-electric all-rounder.
Why are we telling you all that in relation to a hypothetical Subaru? Well, simply because – if the company ever decides to make something small and cool with battery power – those are the potential rivals. But why Subaru?

Well, the Japanese automaker is deeply beloved by fans in North America, where it conducts two-thirds of its automotive business. Toyota and Subaru have already worked on the bZ4X and Solterra, two compact electric SUVs, and the two Japanese brands will continue working together on future EVs.

According to the rumor mill, Subaru and Toyota may plan to offer as many as three all-electric SUVs that could arrive on the market before the end of 2026. Naturally, some of them will be larger than the compact-sized bZ4X and Solterra – and Toyota invests heavily in its plant in Indiana to make that possible, so we are expecting models that are probably as big as the Highlander and Grand Highlander with two or three rows.

However, the boom might come from under the compact class – it seems that the age of ultra-expensive, big EVs is about to end, with many automakers looking to create smaller and much more affordable models to continue the switch from ICE-powered models. Even Ford has started thinking about the situation – so much so that they have postponed the launch of the second-gen EV pickup truck and a big EV SUV in favor of taking mainstream the separate team that brainstormed on a cheap platform for affordable EVs.

Naturally, Subaru could use a sales boom from the potential Holy Grail of affordable little EVs. Or, at least, that's what someone from across the imaginative realm of digital car content creators thinks. More precisely, Vince Burlapp (aka vburlapp on social media or burlappcar.com) is a prolific virtual artist who loves to dream of all the latest models across the wide-ranging automotive realm – and now he fancies a future Subaru compact EV in the form of a little crossover SUV.

If real – remember, this is just a figment of imagination from across the vast parallel universes of vehicular CGI, so take it with a healthy dose of salt – this little Subaru would have loads of cool company from the next Chevrolet Bolt EV or EUV, at least one Ford, the Rivian R3, and possibly even a Tesla that's smaller than the Model 3 and Model Y. So, would you buy it or one of the others?
