The Lamborghini Murcielago came to life after the Diablo story ended, and it properly set up the exotic Italian manufacturer for the brand-new things to come as it delved into the 21st century. Less than 5,000 units were ever produced, but the model will forever go down in history as one of the company’s greatest, as well as the one to kickstart the Audi-led offensive.
As far as I’m concerned, it probably won’t get any better than this any time soon. The Murcielago was the Italian brand’s first new model in more than a decade, and under the design leadership of Luc Donckerwolke, it paved the way for a new era while also maintaining a strong connection to the legendary past.
But it seems that pixel master Siim Parn (a.k.a. spdesignsest on social media) begs to differ. That’s because one of his latest virtual projects has to do with a thoroughly modern update of the V12 flagship. And it uses cues from the latest incarnation of the smaller Huracan—the Squadra Corse-inspired STO. That isn’t a bad idea at all.
Parn is clearly no stranger to makeovers combining old and new, as he’s played with things like the original Golf using the styling backbone of the 2021 Volkswagen ID.3 or reverted the 2020 Ford Puma back to its coupe roots for a bit of modern Sierra RS500 Cosworth impersonation.
Now he’s traveled even closer to our days since the Murcielago bowed out merely eleven years ago. As such, the Huracan STO-inspired body kit for the hulking V12 bull has very subtle cues... sometimes. That’s because the virtual artist wasn’t content with just one stroke of the digital brush; he basically went all out on an entire family of color combinations.
There’s no fewer than 11 of them in the posts embedded below, and we’re rhetorically asking ourselves if we’re dealing with a mere coincidence. If not, he probably did them on purpose, to mark each passing year since the cool Lambo machine has dropped the mic and went backstage to enjoy a peaceful collector’s toy life.
