The second-largest US automaker saw its May sales up 11.2% on the strong showing by hybrids, trucks, and EVs. Most recently, it seems the winning formula is trucks plus hybrids.
The Ford F-150 Hybrid and Maverick Hybrid were particular standouts, and even EV sales rose – but there's an underlying problem there because of incentives and the fact that Ford's zero emissions operations are expected to lose $5 billion this year alone! On the other hand, the all-refreshed Ford F-150, the company's delivery engine, has seen its sales rebound after a slow start during the first quarter of the year when the company was also slow to roll out the facelifted 2024 model year.

More precisely, out of a total of more than 190k vehicles, according to Yahoo Finance, the sales of trucks represented over 109k units, with pickups accounting for almost 88k examples. Naturally, the F-150 took its lion's share, and the nameplate is set to gain further momentum during the second half of the year as customers have plenty of options to choose from, starting with the $36,965 XL and going through the STX, XLT, Tremor, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and finishing with the $78,440 Raptor.

There are also ample configurations – Regular, Super Cab, or SuperCrew body styles, as well as five-and-a-half, six-and-a-half, or eight-foot boxes. However, it seems the imaginative realm of digital car content creators has identified one area where the F-150 is lacking – a vintage showcase. No worries, as one dweller across the parallel universes of vehicular CGI has found a solution.

Abimelec Arellano, a virtual artist better known as abimelecdesign on social media, has prepared the newest wishful thinking project - and it's a cool retro-styled F-Series. Passionate about the 1980s and 1990s, this pixel master recently remembered that during the period, Ford used to offer some great style packages in Mexico – the 'Explorer' and 'Fighter,' both "meant to fill the rising demand of sporty trucks that you could still use for work, with all the bells and whistles."

He is particularly fond of the 'Fighter,' which the author explains had "electric windows, a velour interior, exclusive aluminum wheels, the 'good' stereo system, a blacked-out grille, side pipes and a rollbar with Hella lights. Under the hood, it had a 5.8 EFI (engine) with a close-ratio four-speed, and the exhaust pipes were real glass-packs." Naturally, we are not in the least bit surprised the CGI expert decided to offer us his latest design project as a modern interpretation of that.

Thus, meet the hypothetical 'Fighter' package unofficially introduced by the author as a potential 'retro' trim on the modern Ford F-150. As such, the artist took a Raptor, chopped the cab shorter, extended the bed instead, sandwiched both together, and then added the 'vintage' spice: a black rollbar with round lights on it, a chrome side exhaust system for 1980s-style bling, and even had the Raptor bumpers chromed shiny for good measure.

Last but not least, the hypothetical Ford F-150 'Fighter' Raptor rides on KMC Wheels wrapped in meaty BF Goodrich K02 tires, and the paint livery is a direct "replica of that found in the original Fighter, with a couple of subtle tweaks to fit the new truck's shape." Also, there's a quick comparison between the original, real Ford F-150 'Fighter' and its modern reinterpretation; be sure not to miss that in the post embedded below or the image gallery.
