US Officials Seize Rare Cizeta Supercar

People say that owning a supercar can sometimes get tough. Apparently they’re right, as Immigration and Customs Enforcement seized on Monday a 1994 Cizeta V16T, which is an extremely rare supercar.

And when we say extremely rare, we mean it, as only 10 coupe models and one convertible one were ever built. According to the officials, the Cizeta which is not road legal in the United States entered the country in February 17, 2001, under a one-year bond under the excuse that mechanical work will be carried out.

The car’s creator, Claudio Zampolli, lives in California, though the supercar was never sold in the US. Apparently, US officials found out last month that the car was still in the country, in a warehouse in Fountain Valley, California, which might belong to Cizeta Automobili. Recently they learned that the car was at a classic car showroom in nearby San Juan Capistrano where, on Monday, they seized the it.

“Make no mistake, the illegal importation of gray market vehicles like this is not just a technical violation,” Miguel Unzueta, a special agent in charge of the Los Angeles office, said in a statement.

“Cars that don’t meet U.S. standards are outlawed for a reason. These vehicles can pose a real threat to public health and safety,” he added.

When contacted, Mr Claudio Zampolli said he had nothing to comment, which is understandable after loosing such an unique car. The agency has 60 days to locate and notify the owner of the car, which in light of the new information might turn out to be Austrian.
