Toyota Motorsport GmbH (TMG) announced that a revised version of its TMG EV P002 vehicle has been sent to compete at this year’s Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.
Having last year’s record-breaking run of 10 minutes and 15.380 seconds to improve on, the upgraded Toyota EV P002’s purpose is to set the Pikes Peak electric class record beyond reach. And given the fact that this vehicle also holds the fastest electric lap at the Nurburgring, we might add that the odds are definitely in its favor unless something goes wrong.
The updated Toyota EV P002 will be driven by New Zealander Rod Millen, who already has nine Pikes Peak titles to his account, including five Unlimited Class crowns. We’ll just have to see if this Can-Am lookalike front-winged electric car lives up to expectations.
“We are very excited to return to Pikes Peak alongside our TOYOTA colleagues from the United States. The TMG EV P002 has a perfect history of three records from three attempts, none of which have been beaten, so we have high standards to maintain,” said Claudia Brasse, TMG Executive Coordinator Strategic EV Development.
The 2013 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is scheduled to take place on June 30.
