One of the stars at this year's Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show was a Horizon FD90 yacht. For its size category, this 90-footer (27.4 meters) is quite impressive. It's the first in the series to sport a split-use skylounge, and that's just one of many innovative, highly appealing features.
A lucky American is now officially the owner of a brand-new FD90 pleasure craft by Horizon Yachts. The model was sold in record time, shortly after its debut, and this is mainly owed to its extra-special design.
The FD90 was already a popular model in the builder's FD (Fast Displacement) series, with more than 25 units sold up to now. Versatility is the main focus here, with the FD90 being described as a balanced crossover between the mid-range FD75 and FD80 and the superyacht league FD100, FD110, and FD125.
The fresh model sold at Fort Lauderdale took things to the next level. It kept the successful FD90 DNA, created by Cor D. Rover, and added several ingenious features that made it even more comfortable and extra luxurious. The most noticeable one is the split-use skylounge that cleverly combines an indoor seating area with an extended outdoor area on the bridge deck.
The larger skylounge (compared to the previous FD90 builds) comes with a generous seating area, dominated by a huge U-shaped sofa and a full bar with a sparkling white onyx countertop and a fold-down TV screen cleverly hidden under the hardtop. Elegant doors separate the skylounge from the indoor space on the same deck, furnished with satin-washed wenge and black leather items.
Another novelty is the multi-functional laundry room on board. It's packed with specific laundry amenities and can also easily be used as an extra cabin thanks to the Pullman berth and full head with a shower. This Horizon FD90 is the only one with this unique configuration that includes four staterooms and a versatile laundry room.
Last but not least, it's also the first in the series to sport an open galley on the main deck. It's located ahead of the dining area, and it combines extensive counter space with a light-filled, family-inspired atmosphere. The dining room is also spacious enough to seat ten guests, and it flaunts a beautiful Spanish alabaster droplight that adds a touch of glam.
Style-wise, this fresh Horizon model is as contemporary as it gets – a cool color palette blends light shades of grey with bright white and discrete pops of color for an informal and peaceful ambiance on board. Despite its size, the new yacht comes with a surprisingly spacious garage fitted with a washer/dryer and big enough to store multiple water toys.
The Horizon Group was founded in Taiwan in the '80s by a passionate naval architect, and its high-quality yachts became a hit with US buyers in particular.
