The compact SUV segment is one of the most important, not just in America, but also in developed markets like Germany or Japan. Models like the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V are among the most popular. But we have the latest scoop about another top contended, the all-new Hyundai Tucson.
American auto magazine The Fast Lane Car shoots most of its videos in Collorado, where the rarefied high-altitude air reveals flaws in the powertrains. But this is also a place where most automakers develop new products.
This week, TFL spotted the 2016 Tucson just sitting in a parking lot. We've seen this SUV before on a number of occasions, both in America and in Germany, where it underwent high-speed testing on the Nurburgring. However, this is just a test mule, built around the current generation. The actual production car will look wider and more modern, though still instantly identifiable as a Tucson.
The third generation Tucson will make its official debut next year as a 2016 MY vehicle. The platform will be all-new, making extensive use of high-strength tensile steel. By making the body rigid, the suspension can become softer, more compliant with the road. Officials have hinted a premium ride feel, improved NVH (noise vibration harshness) and a more engaging, responsive steering will make this a top choice in the C-SUV segment.
US-spec models will get the same engines as the 2015 Sonata, including the 2-liter turbo model, a first in this segment. Europeans will be treated to EU6 diesels aimed delivering around 10% better fuel consumption.
