Teased by Hyundai’s luxury sub-brand only recently, the 2018 Genesis G70 now presents itself in all its glory. Coming courtesy of "brunello" of the World Scoop forum, the pics depicting the G70 leave little to the imagination. And yes, the newcomer looks neat!
From the looks of it, we’re dealing with two sets of photos of two different cars. The first lot consists of a red G70 sitting on a trailer’s bed, with white foil masking various parts of the body shell. Zoom in, and you’ll notice generously-sized twin-spoke alloy wheels and red-painted brake calipers.
The second set of photographs bares even more details, with the blue-painted 2018 Genesis G70 sporting the same wheel design, brake calipers, as well as no camouflage whatsoever. The BMW 1 Series Coupe-inspired taillights certainly hark back to the E82, whereas the oval-shaped exhaust tips interweave elegance with sportiness. The trunk lid’s opening, however, doesn’t appear to be generous enough for the car to take in bulky boxes.
Looking at the gills incorporated into the front fenders, right behind the wheel arches, it appears they’re functional. Designed to reduce pressure in the wheel well and redirect the air smoothly along the car’s profile, the gills are complemented by a trunk lid spoiler and a black-painted aerodynamic diffuser.
Being photographed at night, the 2018 Genesis G70 further reveals the centrally-positioned infotainment screen and the design of the third brake light. Based on the short front and rear overhangs, as well as the lengthy wheelbase, it’s almost certain the G70 offers more passenger space than oft-touted rivals such as the BMW 3er, Mercedes C-Class, and Jaguar XE.
Confirmed to make its world premiere on September 15, the third model in the Genesis Motors lineup will be offered with three engines and a choice between six-speed manual and eight-speed automatic transmission. In the turbo diesel corner, we have the 2.2-liter CRDi from the European-spec Kia Stinger. The platform brother of the G70 will borrow the newcomer the 2.0-liter T-GDi and 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6, with the latter rated at 365 ponies.
