Following the Volvo V40, the Mazda is among the first cars to get a reduction in their insurance rates, thanks to the standard-fit Smart City Brake Support (SCBS), which is Mazda’s trademark AEB (Autonomous Emergency Braking) system.
Now, since it is fitted as standard to every new CX-5 bought in the UK, the Association of British Insurers (ABI) has announced the lowering of the original insurance group ratings by two groups, as of October 20. The decision came, of course, after ‘comprehensive tests’ carried out by the ABI, at the Thatcham Research Center, which works closely with the Euro NCAP safety organization.
According to Aftersales Director of Mazda UK, David Wilson-Green, “Although any change in premium depends on many factors that insurers evaluate, even a small reduction in group rating has the potential to cut insurance costs [. . .] We anticipate that the lowered group ratings for CX-5 could result in annual savings up to £50 on some models for our customers.”
