The big story today on the auction scene is that not one but two Ford GT40s will be sold at the upcoming Monterey RM Auctions event on August 17-18th, 2012.
The first car is the 1968 Ford GT40 Gulf/Mirage Lightweight Racing Car. The car was raced throughout 1968 and then sold to Solar Productions in 1970, who used it to make the Le Mans movie with Steve McQueen.
The other Ford GT40 is a 1967 production car in white and blue and is a minter first generation GT40 model.
It’s value is boosted by the fact that it’s one of only 113 production GT40, and also by the fact that it’s done 4,749 miles in 45 years of existence. This pearl white car with contrasting blue racing stripes will sell for $2,300,000 to $2,700,000, according to RM Auctions estimates, due to its “time capsule” condition.
