It seems that the summer holiday season in Romania is off to a bad start this year, as two cars have burned today on the country's main highways, A1 and A2.
The first was a Volvo S40 returning from the seaside to Bucharest on the A2. At 13:37, the emergency rescuers received a call about a fire on the road. It only took the firemen a few minutes to reach the vehicle, but this was engulfed in flames by the time they got there.
Fortunately, nobody was injured in the incident. The unfortunate happening took place in the proximity of the Fetesti toll booth, causing a traffic jam that spread almost 14 km (8.6 miles), as reported by the national media.
As for the other vehicle, this caught fire while it was being driven on the A1 highway, from Bucuresti to Pitesti. The driver immediately took action, parking the car, exiting it and making the required emergency call.
The military firefighters were sent to put out the flames, but the operation took about 20 minutes. The traffic in the aforementioned direction of the A1 was closed the whole time.
Just like in the aforementioned case, the vehicle is a write-off, but there were no casualties. The authorities are investigating to find the exact causes of the fires.
