The latest of the great news comes in the form of an all-new TVR sports car, slated to start production two years from now on. In 2017, TVR will be roaring back to glory thanks to Cosworth and Gordon Murray’s know-how.
Compared to other “TVR is back, hurray!” stories, the owners of the British company are serious about the rebirth of Trevor Wilkinson’s iconic brand. Effective from July 7th, TVR Cars is accepting deposits for the all-new model. How much? £5,000 or $7,830 at current exchange rates. If this represents a 10th of the final price, then the car will boast “incredible value for money,” as stated by TVR Chairman Les Edgar.
“With initial production in 2017 to be in the low hundreds, the early units are likely to be much coveted.” declared Mr. Edgar and we agree with the statement. John Chasey, Operations Director of TVR, adds that the British company has “been totally blown away by the reaction to the new car. Our phone lines and online enquiry system went into meltdown when the news was announced, and we decided that we must begin to bring a structure to the enquiries and build a delivery pipeline well in advance of production. Volumes in year one will be limited as we ramp up production.” What to expect from the model that will see the rebirth of TVR?
First of all, McLaren F1 designer Gordon Murray is working on this project so that we can expect exceptional aesthetics in a form-follows-function type of way. Secondly, there will be a normally aspirated Cosworth V8 engine with dry-sump lubrication that’ll be driving the rear wheels. Front-engined, rear-wheel drive, a 6-speed manual box, and a badge that makes old men in tweed jackets wet their pants - what's not to like?
