BBC’s upcoming series The Outlaws had just finished filming for the day when a truck carrying the show’s costumes crashed into Bristol Harbor.
The Outlaws is a thriller-comedy series on BBC and it encountered different impediments when it came to shooting. Filming for the series began last year, in March 2020, and you know the rest. The crew only got days of filming before everything closed down. They resumed in February 2021 but had to deal with restrictions and last minute-changed schedule.
While the first season hasn’t even aired yet, production for the second season is well underway. But the BBC One show seems to have found yet another issue as the truck carrying the costumes crashed into Bristol Habor. It happened before 7 AM on Thursday, October 21, and the HGV ended up backwards in the river near Millenium Square. Luckily, it didn’t sink completely, having the cab still on land, but the trailer submerged. The filming had wrapped around 5 AM that morning.
A production spokesperson told Bristol Live: “An accident occurred involving one of our production vehicles. No one was hurt or in the vehicle.” They added: “We are investigating what happened and working on removing the vehicle as quickly and safely as possible.”
From the first pictures showing scenes from the series, stars wore ‘80s outfits with extravagant design. Reports claim the outfits in the truck were worth thousands of dollars.
Three fire engines arrived at the scene and the firefighters used the winches of their vehicles to stop the HGV from sinking completely. They managed to rescue it from the harbor the same day, and crowds applauded when the truck had all of its wheels back on the tarmac again. The driver was reportedly left shaken, but he was uninjured.
Created and executively-produced by Stephen Merchant, the show also features A-list star Christopher Walker and Poldark’s Eleanor Tomlinson. The first season of the comedy-crime series consists of six episodes and will premiere on BBC One on October 25. It will also be available on Amazon Prime Video in the U.S., Canada, and Australia.
