Toyota has opened a new chapter in the European hybrid compact car market today, as production of their new Yaris Hybrid has started at their factory in France.
“We are proud to starting building the first full hybrid model in the B-segment in Europe. Furthermore, we are committed to bringing the highest level of quality to our customers. Having the model produced here, also means a brighter future for TMMF and the Valenciennes region. With petrol prices increasing ever more, we believe that we have the perfect fuel efficient product for the urban customer in this segment,” said Toyota Motor Manufacturing France (TMMF) President, Makoto Sano.
The Japanese automaker has invested EUR25 million to prepare TMMF for the new Yaris Hybrid, bringing the total of new investment into the facility to EUR125 million.
The factory in Valencia has something else to celebrate as well, as it has now produced its 2.1 millionth Yaris model as of April 1st. Up to this point, Toyota has sold 400,000 hybrids in Europe, a figure that’s about to grow with the arrival of the much cheaper Yaris.
