Have you ever been in a car that rolled over? I haven't, but I can imagine it's a pretty terrifying moment, not to mention whatever it was that led to it - an actual crash or, as was the case here, a potential one.
However scary it might be, it's still preferable to a head-on collision, so whenever given the option between the two, choose wisely - if we can even talk about choice in those moments when decisions are made in the split of a second. On the other hand, don't do as our man here and try not to be too eager for any of the two.
Indeed, this crash of his was entirely avoidable, and we're not talking about going back in time and preventing the birth of that douchebag in the blue BMW. No, there were quite a few things the driver of the Toyota Yaris could have done to keep this unwanted incident from happening, but sadly he didn't.
First of all, always keep to the edge of the road when approaching a crest on the road. You can't see what's on the other side, but whatever it is, it's more likely you'll be able to go past it if you drive on the outside of the road. The man uses the crest as an excuse for not seeing the BMW driver in time, which may be true, but placing your car on the exterior gives you more time to react.
Pay more attention. If you watch the video, there is more than a second during which he doesn't brake, he doesn't swerve, he doesn't do anything. And then he does, but he panics and overreacts. The BMW was almost entirely back in his lane by the time the two pass by each other, but the Yaris driver had braked so violently that the wheels locked (according to his description, even though I doubt the 1999 Yaris came without ABS) and so he couldn't control the car, hitting that embankment on the side of the road and flipping over.
This is when his calm resumes, as he looks around no more than two seconds after the car stopped rolling and says: "Well, that was f***ing scary!" He then wastes no time climbing out of the car under the careful supervision of the driver being overtaken by the BMW - which, obviously, didn't stop. The camera didn't help that much either, as it appears to have been strapped to his head, so it didn't catch the BMW's plate as he was (rightly) focusing his attention on the left side of the road when it all happened.
