According to the company’s top R&D executives, Toyota Motor Corporation is working on big weight savings and fuel economy gains with its new technology coming in 2015.
Toyota Executive vice president Mitsuhisa Kato said that the company expects a 20 percent weight reduction for its vehicles that will use the new Toyota Global Architecture, while a new TNGA engine will offer a thermal efficiency above 40 percent compared to the current 38.5.
A higher thermal efficiency means that more energy from the internal combustion will go to the wheels, which combined to the lower weight of the car will enable the vehicles to achieve an even better mileage. Toyota says that they will achieve the higher thermal efficiency through an improved combustion and reduced friction between the engine’s moving parts.
