We saw the Toyota Supra GRMN do its thing at the Nurburgring at the end of March, and now it's time to check out a video taken during that testing session.
Uploaded a few hours ago on YouTube by CarSpyMedia, the footage is 1:43 minutes long and shows the more hardcore variant of the sports model tearing up the racetrack and feasting on apexes.

A future rival to the likes of the Nissan Z Nismo, the Toyota Supra GRMN, whose name has yet to be officially confirmed, is rumored to pack a BMW M engine. Previous data spoke about the same motor powering the M3 and M4, a twin-turbo 3.0L unit that churns out 473 horsepower (480 ps/353 kW), enabling the 0-60 mph (0 to 97 kph) sprint in one-tenth over the four-second mark.

Nevertheless, it appears the upcoming model does not feature this engine, nor the punchier 503 horsepower (510 ps/375 kW) variant that powers the Competition models, dropping the acceleration time by three-tenths of a second, or seven-tenths with the xDrive all-wheel drive system installed. It seems that Toyota settled for the M2's lump.

If that is correct, then it might retain its output and torque, which are rated at 435 horsepower (459 ps/338 kW) and 406 pound-feet (550 Nm). The premium subcompact sports coupe signed by BMW's M Division needs 3.9 seconds to reach the 60 mph mark from a standstill. However, the Supra GRMN could have a different output and might take a bit less or maybe a bit more to hit 60.

The Japanese brand will give it an eight-speed automatic transmission for ultimate performance. However, this is said to be optional, as the car might benefit from a six-speed manual as standard, and this will be the one to get for more engaging driving if you're into changing gears by hand, though it will be a couple of tenths slower compared to the automatic.

Visually, the upcoming Supra GRMN has a chunky apron integrated into the front bumper, side blades, and a large wing out back that could be adjustable. Additional work will likely be carried out beneath the skin, where it should feature a few suspension tweaks. Uprated brakes should also be part of the more serious makeover, and the scooped prototype had cross-drilled discs at the front and rear.

Reports speak about a possible unveiling of the fixed-roof sports car in a few months, with the first copies likely arriving at dealers in our market shortly after. It should be a 2025 model year and might cost north of the $70,000 barrier, given that the current 45th Anniversary trim level kicks off from $65,275. An M2 and an M4 will cost you at least $63,200 and $79,100, respectively. So, would you get the Supra GRMN over a full-blown BMW M model?
