Toyota says that driving is like swimming at the Olympics - “if you want to get ahead, you have to stay in your lane.”
An idea that was used by the automaker to develop its Lane Keep Assist system, that scans the road ahead and warns you when the car is changing lanes without signaling, a hint that you are not paying attention to driving.
The system uses a camera mounted behind the inside rearview mirror, that basically looks forward and recognizes the white markings on the road if they are visible enough.
Also, the system will apply a small correction to the steering in order to prevent you from leaving the current lane.
