It looks like the Indian best-selling MPV Toyota Innova will be soon threatened by a new rival from the Maruti Suzuki joint venture in the near future.
As revealed by Live Mint, Maruti is developing a new vehicle, code-named RX to take on the Innova in 2017. The RX will be an eight-seater vehicle with a high-capacity diesel unit that is expected to equip other vehicles starting with 2014-2015.
“RX is still some time away and a lot of details are still at discussion stage. The company is tight-lipped about it,” said one of the vendors familiar with the company’s plans.
The vehicle is expected to reach dealerships in the second half of 2016 or even 2017, positioned above the Ertiga, which is the company’s current offering in the multi-utility segment.
