We all make mistakes. Most of the time, it's either a lack of attention or miscalculation, but let's face it: there is no driver that drives flawlessly every single day. However, going up a pedestrian bridge and getting stuck on it is not something that you see every day. It happened to a Toyota Camry driver. The shortcut he tried to take took him straight into police custody.
The driver of a Toyota Camry can blame Waze or any other navigation app out there all he wants. However, this won't get him anywhere and surely won't spare him the arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol.

One early morning, at 7:54 AM, the California Highway Patrol from Marin received a call referring to a driver who was stuck on a pedestrian bridge near Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and Nellen Avenue, along southbound US-101, in Larkspur, north of San Francisco.

The situation was so… tight, that he couldn't even get out of the car, as the doors were blocked by the guardrail of the bridge, specifically designed to keep pedestrians safe. Luckily, it worked for a car as well, as nobody was injured and the vehicle did not drop feet down into the water underneath.

The driver must have attempted to drive to his destination, whatever that was, at 8 AM while he was impaired. The car advanced easily until the walkway became narrower and narrower, and the poor Toyota Camry got completely stuck, with no chance whatsoever to drive forward or reverse.

However, the driver put on quite a three-ring circus to get on the news and got quite far, squeezing his poor Camry between the rails. Luckily, he got stuck before he caused any crash. Imagine the shock of the impaired driver when he realized that his white Toyota was all of a sudden unable to go forward.

The driver ended up in police custody and will have some explaining to do. He was arrested and the authorities are running an investigation to find out exactly how he ended up on the pedestrian bridge. The California Highway Patrol told the whole story in a Facebook post, spotted by Carscoops.

So many drivers go the wrong way, it's either a navigation app or DUI to blame, or both

However, he is far from being the first driver to find themselves in unusual situations. Back in March 2023, we reported about the driver of a Ford, who got stuck on the railroad in Manila, the Philippines. The driver blamed Waze, but from police reports, the truth was that he did not know the area and got confused in the dark. It was, after all, 4 AM when the incident happened.

Back in 2022, Andrew Beavers, a 55-year-old driver from England, ended up going the wrong way on the A38 truck road near Buckfastleigh. He wasn't as lucky as the driver who got stuck on the pedestrian bridge going the wrong way. He had a third-degree encounter with drivers driving the right way and hit not one, not two, not three, but four other vehicles.

Earlier this year, another driver took a wrong turn and got stuck on some stairs in the heart of Edinburgh. He blamed Google Maps for suggesting the wrong route. Back then, local media confirmed that it was, indeed, a wrong suggestion offered by the map. However, figuring out that taking a car down the stairs is not rocket science.
