Toyota recently reported a sales increase for the month of November, its first since April. This came on the back of strong demand for the new Camry sedan, as well as the Prius hybrid family of vehicles, which saw a 49 percent sales increase.
The Big T saw the light at the end of the tunnel and is now hoping to make up lost ground by relying on its hybrid vehicles to increase US sales going forward. According to Automotive News, two new Prius versions will be launched next spring, while production will increasingly take place in North America.
Company insiders have told the aforementioned publication that Toyota could double the number of gas-electric cars sold in NA to 400,000 as soon as 2015, but only if production is switched to local plants in order to reduce the impact of the rising Japanese yen.
"Hybrids are a big part of our growth strategy,” said Bob Carter, Toyota’s General Manager, who added that he believe hybrids will outsell the Camry in the second half of this decade.
