Now that the Toyota Prius is well into its third generation, the Japanese carmaker has decided to give Europeans a Prius that’s... not a Prius.
Sure, Lexus has done this before with the CT 200h, but this time the premium aura is not here. We are talking about the Toyota Auris Hybrid. This is the second-gen Auris Hybrid and it has huge ambitions. This all seems right, especially if we consider that its predecessor sold rather well even though it wasn’t an established name.
Putting the Prius’ petrol-electric powertrain in a “normal” car seems to make full sense at the moment, when all the city traffic is chocking us. Right now, we don’t need the extra space given by the Prius’ larger D-segment size.
We don’t care about the image either, all we want is to see that efficiency go up. Well, they’ve tweaked the hybrid system a bit and the Auris Hybrid actually tops the Prius’ efficiency inside the city. For the exact numbers, head over to our Toyota Auris Hybrid test drive.
