There are three major classifications for RVs: Class A, Class C, and the smallest, Class B. Well, this time around, we'll be living out of a Class A motorhome from none other than Thor Motorcoach. It's here that we find the rather affordable and family-ready Axis.
Ladies and gents, Class A motorhomes are often regarded as the peak that the mobile living industry can produce, with some units costing well over $1M. But, Thor Motor Coach knows that not every family has millions to spend on an RV, so they devised the Axis lineup, a family of RVs that offers future owners the benefits of a Class A machine without breaking the bank like one.

For example, the least expensive available floorplan for the 2025 model year starts at a tad over $172K (€160K at current exchange rates), as much as some toy haulers or high-end travel trailers. That's a fraction of what most Class A machines are going for these days, and part of that is because this is a no-frills unit, giving owners the essentials they need to stay comfortable, safe, and clean while still exploring all the open road has to offer.

Now, to give you a clear idea of what's in store with this lineup, I invite you to continue reading. However, once you're done, take a 30-minute break and watch the video below. In it, Steve DuVal, the usual presenter for Thor Motor Coach products, takes us on a trip describing all the little hidden goodies the Axis has to offer.

As for myself, I'll just be painting a rather simple picture of a life lived out of the Axis. All this starts off with you behind the wheel of a Ford E-Series with a 7.3-liter V8 engine with 350 hp and a peak of 468 lb-ft of torque. That's enough power to haul all 22,000 lbs (9,980 kg) of GCWR (the larger floorplans).

Driving along, you hear the laughter of your kids in the background. Your significant other is looking back to see what the laughter's all about; he or she smiles, too. Knowing that all is well, a smile comes across your own face, too.

Yet, it's only once you park your unit that the real magic begins. After a minute of stretching your back and taking in the sights and sounds of the world around you, it's time to put in a bit more effort to complete the last leg of the journey. It's at this stage that you'll connect your Axis to the grid and sewage. That's because this is a park-ready unit with light off-grid capabilities.

Sure, you'll be able to live off the 40 gals (151 lit) of fresh water and two house batteries for a day or two, but the 100 W of solar power that can be strapped to the Axis isn't enough to keep that juice flowing freely. Luckily for us, there's a 4.0 kW generator in place.

Now, once we've settled in and connected our lines and shore power, it's time to unload all the goodies you stored in the lockers found all over the Axis' exterior. This includes an outdoor dining table, gear for adventurous activities, and access to the outdoor shower. While the 2025 floorplans don't showcase the following feature, the 2024 model explored in the video below had a toy garage. Extend an awning and spark up a grill.

When it's time to retire to the interior of this mobile habitat, we'll be able to see that Thor included a slide-out into each floorplan. By placing theater seating or a sofa onto it, the interior is expanded that much more. A removable table works even more wonders in freeing up precise space. Another table can be placed between the driver and passenger swivel seats.

As for the rest of the living space, it's clearly equipped with the essentials such as a complete galley and bathroom, but depending on the floorplan you choose, the bedroom will either be composed of a central queen bed with walk-around or two split twin options, but which can be converted into a massive beam-to-beam king. An optional bunk bed can also be installed above the driver and passenger seating.

From here, all you have to do is get clean, pick your favorite spot, and rest up. If you crack the windows all around, not only will you flood the inside with the cleanest air, but you'll also be able to let birds lure you into an afternoon siesta.

Upon waking up, you notice that firewood has been gathered by the kids, and the outdoor grill set has your name on it; your significant other has been busy preparing your "grillables" while you slept. You finish your meal as the sun sets over the horizon, and before long, the sky is filled with more stars than you even knew existed. Is anyone up for some S'mores?
