The Toyota Yaris Hybrid-R Concept truly is one of the most interesting vehicles an automaker can come up with. Not because of its looks, or because it’s just an enhanced Yaris, but because of its technology lying under its skin.
What Toyota managed to do is take the same technology found on the TS030 Hybrid Le Mans racecar and adapt it into a small three-door hatch - probably the most important one since the VW Golf now.
The Hybrid-R powertrain features a 300 hp 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline engine and three electric motors, each having the equivalent of 60 hp - on between the engine and gearbox and one for each rear wheel - all being able to work independently.
More staggering is the way this whole system works in perfect harmony, managing to “play” with the energy distribution and recovery to offer both city adaptability and racing performances. See it at work in the video bellow.
