A cup of tea please and sushi to go! Besides offending a lot of Japanese people with this, we hope we also got your attention. Now, if you've ever lived in a van just because you were to busy surfing to actually make a living, you’ll want to see how far creativity can go with this Japanese van.
Youtube user Higuti Itio uploaded a video of what seems to be a Japanese small van, or, for the afficionados, a Kei car. At least that is how it looks from outside, because once you pull the door you’ll find yourself stepping in someone's living-room. The super-compact van had its back row of seats removed and replaced with what you’ll find in a room of any traditional Japanese house.
The floor panels are covered with tatami (a type of mat typically used as a flooring material) reed mats. As for the illumination, this comes from a wood-framed ceiling lamp and the van even offers a tokonoma corner. The last is a Japanese term generally referring to a built-in recessed space in a traditional style reception room, in which items for artistic appreciation are displayed. It’s what you’d call alcove in English. As far as we can tell from the video, there’s even a painting hanging there.
Higuti Itio claims to use the van as a trailer, as he travels around Japan. This is why the car is gifted with an ample closet space, a slot for a table and an elegantly designed sink. As long as you don't mind the song playing in the background, you should check out the video below to take a better view.
So, what have you done with your van?
