Even after writing hundreds of articles about camper vans, I still stumble upon builds that surprise me with their unique, creatively designed living spaces. The latest one that did exactly that is the camper van I'm checking out today.
Meet "Holly," a 2019 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter with an extended wheelbase and a 2.2-liter diesel engine. It was converted by Van Life Builds, a Bristol, UK-based company that aims to transform vans into premium, bespoke tiny homes on wheels. We've previously covered one of its projects here on autoevolution.

So, what makes this specific build unique? Well, it's not only a one-off design but can accommodate up to five people in creatively designed sleeping arrangements. It also comes with three showers. Before we take a closer look at its interior, let me briefly discuss what you can see on the outside.

"Holly" is finished with black wrap and an eye-catching two-tone decal depicting mountains and trees. Moreover, on the roof, you'll notice 400 W solar panels. Other notable details are a window on the sliding door, as well as smaller ones on the driver's side. Keep in mind this is a UK van, so the driver's side is on the right.

Step inside, and you might be taken aback by the beautifully designed interior – the dark exterior theme continues on the inside. Van Life Builds opted for many black touches, complemented by a striking greenish wallpaper and live-edge wooden accents. What's more, the van has an open layout, meaning the driver's cabin isn't separated from the living space.

Sure, it's nice to have an aesthetically pleasing mobile home, but I think most of you will agree that it's more important to have a setup that allows for as much comfort as possible. So, let me tell you how Van Life Builds ensured that you would enjoy the time you spent inside its rig.

At the front, the builders installed something you don't often see in camper vans: a double bench seat that acts as the passenger seat. Moreover, both the driver's and passenger's seats can be swiveled to face the interior.

Behind the driver's cabin, you'll discover the seating area. It comprises not only the front seats but also an additional double bench seat and two swivel tables, one of which can be pulled outside of the rig. Other notable details are a shelf, an overhead cabinet, and a tiny slide-screen window.

But wait, there's more. Van Life Builds devised an ingenious sleeping arrangement in the driver's seat: a cab bunk. You can attach four poles: on one end, they mount to two wall-mounted metal bars, while the seats support them on the other side.

It's not the most comfortable solution since you sleep on fabric and not on mattresses, but it'll do the job. However, they can only support 70 kg (154 lb.) and are quite narrow. For more convenience and comfort, the builders also installed two reading lights and a thick shag carpet on the floor.

Next, we have the kitchen, located on the driver's side of the interior. It features an L-shaped butcher block countertop, a hidden slide-out two-burner induction stove, a 50-liter Dometic CRX50 fridge/freezer, a live-edge shelf, and a tiny sink with an extendable faucet. Furthermore, you can pull this faucet through a small window and attach it to the van's body to enjoy an outdoor shower.

For storage, there are two matte black overhead cabinets, a tall cupboard, a large cabinet underneath the countertop, two spacious drawers, and two racks. There's even a wine bottle holder with two spots.

Inside the tall cupboard, you'll find the rig's control panel, which consists of a touchscreen controller for a Truma boiler, a freshwater tank monitor, a battery monitor, and an inverter controller.

By the way, the Truma boiler is a 2-in-1 solution, providing hot air and hot water. It can run off electricity or diesel from the vehicle's tank and can be controlled via a smartphone app.

Since we're on the topic of utilities, let me tell you about the other systems in this camper van. The power system's highlights are a 3,000 W inverter/charger, 340 Ah lithium batteries, a DC-DC charger, and a charge controller connected to the 400 W solar panels on top of the vehicle. Regarding plumbing, the rig is equipped with a 70-liter (18-gallon) freshwater tank and a 75-liter (20-gallon) greywater tank.

Opposite the kitchen, you'll discover a tiny bench with storage underneath, two hooks for hanging your coat, and an umbrella holder. Quite classy, innit? Sorry, I had to do it.

The rear part of the interior is split into two parts: the bedroom and the bathroom. The bathroom is on the passenger side and boasts a Porta Potti toilet also accessible from the garage, a teak mat, a huge two-part sink, a shelf, and a decently sized sink with an extendable faucet that doubles as a shower.

Regarding design, Van Life Builds gave the bathroom an all-black look, with the exception of a wood countertop and a few tiles behind the sink. Moreover, the company used Raptor Liner to waterproof the walls, a protective coating typically used on the van's body.

Finally, we have the bunk bedroom area. The lower bunk is just under two meters (6.5 feet) long, which is more than enough to accommodate most people. The top bunk is smaller, so it's fit for a shorter person or a child. Furthermore, both bunks come with small cubbies and lights, while the top bunk also gets some natural light via a skylight, perfectly positioned to allow you to stargaze while lying down.

To access the garage, you'll have to open the two rear doors. It features a special slot to hold the cab bed, a shelf, rubber matting, extra storage space for your belongings, a 12 V plug, and the third and final shower.

All in all, Van Life Builds' tiny home on wheels has so many clever features. What's more, it looks fantastic inside and out, is cozy, and fully maximizes the available interior space.
