It's hard to pick the most impressive thing about this custom tiny house designed and built in Tasmania: is it the ingenious built-in deck with an outdoor BBQ, the ultra-modern layout that blends with the natural surroundings, or all the off-grid capabilities? Perhaps the most remarkable of all is that this fabulous house on wheels is neither a luxury retreat nor a fancy vacation haven but an actual home designed and equipped for full-time living.
It's possible to combine a sustainable lifestyle and maximum independence with a high level of comfort, and this tiny home proves it. A comfortable single-level layout provides the comfort of a much more expensive, sophisticated house while almost merging with its natural surroundings for a profound outdoor experience. Additional off-grid capabilities keep this sanctuary on wheels fully independent and sustainable in the long run. It would be safe to say that it's a dream home for outdoor enthusiasts and freedom-seekers.

Like most Aussie tiny homes, this 7.2-meter (23.6-foot) custom model doesn't have the frills and decorative exterior style of rustic homes, with ample woodwork and a more traditional look. On the outside, it looks rather simple and austere, although it draws attention with its extensive glazing. Aussie and Kiwi tiny house builders have turned the concept of indoor/outdoor spaces into a form of art. This Little Latitude Homes creation seems almost transparent, yet it cleverly mixes openness with privacy just enough to keep things balanced.

From the bedroom, you get the best perspective of this dwelling's incredible use of glass and its sophisticated layout; you'll see the two separate entrances, each with oversized sliding doors; you'll also see the floor-to-ceiling windows that look like an extension of the glass doors. All of this effectively blurs the line between the indoor and the outdoor. It's not just about stunning panoramic views; it's a feeling of being immersed in nature while staying protected from the elements.

The main entrance leads into the kitchen/dining area. This sophisticated, purely contemporary layout ditches all conventional separations, so it's hard to say where a certain area begins and where it ends; everything is seamlessly merged into one big open-concept space with very subtle transition elements. This flawless fluidity makes the interior feel even more spacious.

The kitchen is fully open and generous. There's enough room for full-size appliances, including a fridge, and sufficient storage for full-time living requirements. A combination of traditional drawers and overhead units with open shelves keep this kitchen clutter-free and airy. A simple yet elegant dining table can be easily moved around this area to create the perfect dining spot at any time.

One of the most remarkable custom features is the semi-open dividing wall between the kitchen and the bedroom, doubling as a clever storage solution. It's one of those subtle transition elements that creates privacy for the bedroom without actually blocking the view or closing off the space. Plus, it adds functionality to each room without interfering with the floor space; on one side, it incorporates an elegant built-in wine rack for the dining area, and on the other side, it features several storage cabinets for personal items.

The bedroom is unusual and sophisticated. Typically, single-level tiny homes come with a traditional-style enclosed bedroom, fully separate from the rest of the house and often with private access to the outside. This unusual layout, however, opens up the lounge section (which is where the second entrance is), while the bedroom and the en-suite-style bathroom belong to the home's more secluded area.

Due to this unusual layout, the bedroom stays almost open – there are no doors or full-height walls. It has two large windows on each side; plus, one of the main oversized windows almost becomes a transparent glass wall. This is a bedroom for those who want to feel close to nature at all times. At the same time, it's as cozy and inviting as any other bedroom. The built-in queen-sized bed provides additional storage underneath, and there's also a lovely wooden vanity that could double as a desk.

The bathroom is discretely hidden behind all-white doors that blend in with the walls. It's fully equipped and elegantly furnished with items in the same contemporary minimalist style as the rest of the house. One unexpected perk is a washing machine that's cleverly camouflaged into an elegant cabinet: you wouldn't want a washing machine in your bedroom, but this design hack keeps up appearances without sacrificing functionality.

At the opposite end of the house, the open-concept lounge literally expands outside; the sliding glass doors open unto the home's built-in deck. It's a tiny 1.2-meter (3.9-foot) covered deck that comes with an extra perk for outdoor living in the form of a built-in BBQ. It's almost like having a private glamping retreat on wheels for the ultimate outdoor experience.

Later on, the owner added two bigger decks – when you live next to the ocean and have a gorgeous garden, you want all the al-fresco space you can get. Still, even without these extras, the Little Latitude Tiny is a perfect outdoor haven. This includes having a complete off-grid package to keep it self-sufficient.

Right from the start, the house was fitted with rooftop solar panels, a water pump, on-demand gas-powered hot water, a gas cooktop, and a waterless toilet. In the lounge, you'll also notice a lovely wood stove – probably the only rustic thing inside this contemporary home and a proven heating solution for self-sufficient dwellings.

We could see this as a high-end glamping resort in a glamorous location, but the fact that it's a private full-time residence makes it even more impressive. It shows us that anyone can merge luxurious living with freedom and sustainability if they put their minds to it.

Founded by a creative couple with an extensive construction background, this young Tasmanian company ended up being purchased by another couple. The original owners of Little Latitude Homes helped them build their first tiny home and inspired them to build dream homes for others as well. Each dwelling that was built under this brand is custom-designed, unique, and inspiring in its own way, just like the Little Latitude Homes 1.
