The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 has proven itself as both a reliable machine that won’t break the bank and an excellent platform for customization. Many workshops have thus far had a go at reinterpreting the model in their own unique ways, and the results are often spectacular in the truest sense of the word. Case in point: this gorgeous retro scrambler pieced together by BAAK Motocyclettes.
Remi Reguin and his crew performed just the right amount of custom work here, so as to give the INT650 some off-roading capability and make it more suitable for longer rides. The bike was built as a demo for their Interceptor customization program, and a similar machine can be yours for around €12,000 ($12,820 at current exchange rates).
That’s an exciting proposition, for sure, but all the bits used here can also be bought individually from BAAK’s aftermarket catalog. With this being said, let’s go ahead and examine what this scrambled Royal Enfield is all about. The donor bike for this particular conversion was almost brand-new, and Remi’s specialists quickly took it apart upon arrival at their facility. A fair chunk of the OEM hardware got ditched in the process.
Items like the stock seat, exhaust mufflers, and lighting equipment have all found themselves in BAAK’s crosshairs, but so did the fenders and various other accessories. The Interceptor’s front end is now home to a classy fiberglass fairing and twin headlights with distinctly retro vibes. Aluminum mounting paraphernalia was used to fit these goodies in place, similar to the high-mounted front fender placed lower down.
The mudguard is made of stainless-steel for durability. Further back in the cockpit area, we notice CNC-machined risers supporting a new handlebar, which is outfitted with Biltwell grips and slender rear-view mirrors. Moving southward, you will still see the original INT650 fuel tank worn by this specimen, but it now carries a pair of knee pads for both comfort and visual appeal.
Behind the stock tank lies a custom bench seat with plentiful padding, flanked by aluminum side covers to fill up the subframe triangle. At the back, one may also find a circular LED taillight perched atop the subframe tubing, right above a discreet rear fender and a compact license plate bracket. There is a stylish saddlebag placed on the right-hand side, but the mounting hardware for this setup is also present on the left.
All the aforementioned equipment is supported by aftermarket shock absorbers, and the exhaust piping ends in lightweight aluminum mufflers. Dual-purpose rubber and a gorgeous green colorway comprise the finishing touches here, making the whole package come together beautifully. This scrambled Interceptor 650 is a genuine stunner from every angle, and some dirt marks make it look even better as you can tell from these photos.
