The one and only Cleetus McFarland is the proud owner of a 2021 Ram 1500 TRX. Described as "a $100,000 mistake" by the YouTube personality, said off-road truck was immediately converted to a regular cab. According to McFarland, the body shop cut 31 inches (make that 787.4 millimeters) out of the frame rails of the V8-engined pickup.
Of course, said body shop also had to remove two doors from the cab to create a regular cab. The reason he spent an obscene amount of money on buying the truck and the subsequent conversion? "I did it because we're giving it away to you guys."
Every $5 spent on McFarland's website on goodies that include apparel, stickers, air fresheners, and posters will get you an entry for the one-of-a-kind thriller, plus $20,000 in cash. Not bad, huh? On the other hand, 3.74 million subscribers and counting results in slim chances of you or me actually winning this Ram TRX.
Pictured in what Ram calls Bright White Clear-Coat Exterior Paint and Diamond Black Crystal Pearl-Coat Exterior Paint, the truck is rocking the OEM tires. The Goodyear Wrangler Territory all-terrain rubber in question measures 325/65 by 18 inches at every corner, and the polished black aluminum wheels measure 18 by 9.0 inches.
Obviously, the driveshaft had to be shortened as well. The mounting points for the transfer case and suspension were retained, although some wiring and the brake lines had to be shortened. The lack of rear seats and shortened cab aren't the only interior changes over the standard truck.
The headliner panel that reads TRX is pretty cool, but even so, this fellow isn't equipped with a sunroof. Spruced up with some Alcantara, the pickup also received a tonneau cover. All in all, one seriously cool build that will certainly put a smile upon the face of whoever gets to win it.
TRX is the ultimate expression of the pre-facelift DT, a.k.a. fifth-generation Ram truck. Previewed by the Rebel TRX concept at the 2016 State Fair of Texas, the production model went official for 2021. Still available to configure on Ram's website, TRX currently starts at $96,585 excluding the destination charge and options.
Powered by the soon-to-be-discontinued Hellcat supercharged V8, the most powerful internal combustion-engined Ram has been indirectly replaced in the lineup for 2025 by the RHO. Instead of 702 horsepower and 650 pound-feet (881 Nm), the RHO is a six-cylinder affair with two snails that help it produce 540 horsepower and 521 pound-feet (706 Nm) at full chatter.
Disappointing? It sure is, but looking at the glass half full, it's pretty tempting. Not only does it cost way less than Ford's F-150 Raptor at $69,995 versus $78,440 before taxes and extras, but it's more powerful and torquier as well. The biggest problem of the 2025 Ram 1500 RHO is that Stellantis didn't put in the effort to develop a 37-inch tire package, with such a package offered by Dearborn's favorite son since the 2021 model year F-150 Raptor. The hugely expensive Raptor R, whose Predator supercharged V8 belts out 720 ponies for 2024, comes with 37s by default.
