Back in June this year, StudioTorino presented their second Mercedes-Benz SL coupe study after the CoupeTorino from 2008. Compared to the first one, the MY 2012 CoupeTorino looked remarkably like a Shooting Brake version of the Mercedes-Benz roadster, making for not a bad-looking car.
We don't know if that was the inspiration for Theophilus Chin's latest Mercedes-Benz rendering or if he is simply going through a Shooting Brake phase, but he also transformed an SL R231 into a gorgeous three-door hatchback in the style of the Ferrari F12 or BMW Z3 Coupe.
Sadly, this is only a rendering and the chances for a real version to end up being manufactured by the three-pointed star maker are about as slim as Dieter Zetsche shaving off his epic mustache.
That doesn't stop “automotive manipulators” like Theophilus Chin to dream, and boy is this a gorgeous dream. With the next generation of the SL about half a decade away, there is still time for someone at Mercedes-Benz to acknowledge the niche potential of a high-end three-door shooting brake model to complement their soon-to-be two five-door ones (the CLA Shooting Brake comes in 2014, ed).
