I'm a fan of micro camper van conversions. I wouldn't travel in one, but I'm fascinated by the ingenious solutions builders find to fit as many features as possible. Today, I'm checking out a cleverly designed micro camper meant to comfortably accommodate a couple.
Meet Nic and Sam, the owners and converters of this tiny home on wheels. The two aren't strangers to camper conversions – they've previously converted and lived in a Renault Master MWB (Medium Wheelbase).

With all the experience they gained from that project, they started the conversion I'm discussing today based on a 2011 Renault Caddy Maxi. The rig is now for sale – more about that at the end of the article.

The vehicle sports a 1.6-liter engine and tips the scales at 1,680 kg (3,704 lb.). What's more, it can carry a maximum capacity of 630 kg (1,389 lb.).

I'll start the van tour with the exterior like I usually do. The vehicle is finished all around in eye-catching blue paint. Moreover, unlike with other micro camper van conversions, you can tell someone is living inside this rig.

What gives away its "camper DNA" is a roof rack with a payload of 70 kg (154 lb.) and a flexible 200 W solar panel. Other notable exterior features are a roof vent, a slide-screen window integrated into one of the sliding doors, a tow bar, and upgraded alloy rims.

Like other similarly sized vans, such as the Nissan NV200 and the Ford Transit Connect, the Caddy Maxi has two sliding doors. The one on the passenger side serves as an entrance. Also, keep in mind that this is a UK van, so the passenger side is the left side of the vehicle.

Pop the entrance or the two rear doors open, and you'll be greeted by a compact yet beautifully designed interior. Nic and Sam opted for a white, green, and dark brown color theme. They paired a striking wooden ceiling with white walls, green cabinetry with rattan inserts, and oak-colored carpeting on the rear doors. However, the most eye-catching design touch in this rig is by far the kitchen's live-edge countertop.

The kitchen is located on the passenger side of the interior. It features a decently sized stainless steel sink with a hand-pump faucet, a good amount of counter space, and a camping two-burner stove. If you want to cook or eat outside, you can use a flip-up table attached to the rear left door.

Moreover, it offers a surprising amount of storage space in the form of cabinets and drawers, as well as a long spice rack mounted on the kitchen wall. Inside the cabinet underneath the sink, you'll find the no-frills water system, consisting of a 10-liter (2.6-gallon) freshwater tank and a 10-liter greywater tank.

On the opposite side, you'll discover the couch/bedroom. Its top panels can be lifted to reveal storage space. Moreover, as expected, it can be transformed into a bed by pulling out a wooden frame and rearranging the cushions. Or, if you want to lounge, yet you don't want to take up all the space, you can extend just one part of the couch.

The bed can accommodate even taller people, as it's 180 centimeters (71 inches) long and 103 centimeters (40.5 inches) wide. I know that's not that long, but there's additional space past the bed into the driver's cabin, where you can rest your legs. What's more, there's a pull-out section that offers an extra 10 centimeters (4 inches) of space.

When you're ready to sleep, you can block off all the light coming from outside the van, especially if you want a lazy morning the following day. The driver's cabin can be separated from the living space by a curtain, and the two side windows also have curtains. Nic and Sam will also add insulated window covers for the two rear doors.

Moving to the front part of the interior, you'll discover a Kildwick portable composting toilet stored underneath the bed. Behind the passenger seat, the couple devised a floor-to-ceiling unit.

In its bottom part, a slide-out houses an Alpicool C15 15-liter fridge box. Above, a cabinet provides some extra storage space, while the top part of the unit holds this rig's power system, an Allpowers R600.

This portable power station boasts a 600 W inverter and a 299 Wh capacity and is directly connected to the solar panel on the roof. Moreover, it can also be charged via a 12 V port while driving or through a shore power connection.

As I mentioned earlier, the rig is now for sale. Its odometer currently reads around 94,000 miles (151,278 km), and the couple shared that it was well maintained. They have extensive documents and receipts to back up this claim.

This camper van costs £16,000 ($20,239 or €19,017), which I'd say is a fair price considering its features and aesthetic. You can find out more about it on its listing.
