Eight years after its original introduction at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show (ah, the good old days!), the Bugatti Chiron has just reached the end of the line. The Molsheim brand has announced that the production of this magnificent hypercar has ended.
Mind you, Bugatti couldn’t have made the big announcement without revealing #500, which is truly spectacular. Christened the ‘L’Ultime,’ French for ‘the ultimate’ (or Italian for ‘the latest’), the final Bugatti Chiron builds on the Super Sport specification and features exclusive touches on the outside and in that exquisite cockpit.

This 500thand final Chiron model is a fitting farewell that captures a defining legacy that will forever be etched in automotive history and paves the way to a bright new chapter, starting with the production of the Bolide and W16 Mistral and continuing with the unveiling of our new model in June,” said the brand’s President, Christophe Piochon.

Signed by the Bugatti Sur Mesure team, it’s said to sport a reimagined original design with an interplay of fading colors that’s a tribute to “all the places where the car has spread its magic since 2016.” French Racing Blue and Atlantic Blue mix together to create a unique look on the outside. The Bugatti macaron has a tailored blue look on the grille, and various hand-written places and events can be seen outside.

It couldn’t have made do without the #500 bedecking various components, and it was hand-written on different parts, including the rear wing, wheel caps, and the engine cover on top of the jaw-dropping W16 powertrain.

Since the final Chiron is a Super Sport, its 8.0L quad-turbo W16 motor produces 1,577 horsepower (1,600 ps/1,177 kW), 99 hp (100 ps/74 kW) more than the standard model, and puts 1,180 pound-foot (1,600 Nm) of torque under the driver’s right foot. In just 12.1 seconds after taking off, the Chiron SS will have reached 186 mph (300 kph), and it can keep going all the way up to 273 miles an hour or 440 kilometers per hour.

The French flag motif also bedecks different parts, and #500 is visible in the cockpit, alongside the ‘L’Ultime’ touches. The French hypercar maker, which operates under the Volkswagen Group’s roof, describes the cabin as “a carbon fiber symphony” that “unfolds for both the driver and passenger,” which mixes the Blue Carbon Matt touches with the Deep Blue high-end leather upholstery. The hand-woven leather was hand-cut, hand-stitched, and applied to several components to elevate the feel of the final Chiron further.

Thus, this is the end of the line for the Bugatti Chiron, and most of the automotive world is sad to see this dream ride go. However, as the company’s head honcho said, the new model is due in June, so we’ll keep an eye open for it. Meanwhile, let’s pour one out for the magnificent Chiron.
